1.
November 04:28
Everyone's in love, but I'm not Sure I've loved, but it ain't been bought And I've cared, oh I've cared, but it's for naught She's in love, but I'm not Everyone keeps warm, but I'm cold Sure I've got coats, but they're getting old It's like a bad hand, and I've gotta fold She keeps warm, but I'm cold 'Cause when November comes around everything changes The world lets go of everything grown and rearranges Oh, how I long for concrete Oh, how I long for a steady sea Everyone's been full, but I'm empty Can I be a rich man without plenty? And my heart, oh my heart, hasn't let down gently She's been full, but I'm empty 'Cause when November comes around everything changes The world lets go of everything grown and rearranges Oh, how I long for concrete Oh, how I long...
2.
I've been sleepin' in a cold room 'Cause I feel like coverin' up The boots by the bedside are covered in dust Haven't moved in a month Like the snow that falls in April Making stagnant the warmth I woke up and I looked oustide, and said "I'm going back to the dark" I don't like the light It's much too bright I don't like the light I've been sleepin' in a cold tomb I remember the day that I died The boots by the bedside were covered in blood And I was tryin' to hide Like the drought in December Stealing water from the soil Accursed are we, sons of Adam This barren ground we've toiled But I saw the light And I saw the cross And the serpent was crushed And forever had lost
3.
I'm headin' south for winter Don't know where I'll end up But my gut tells me it'll be a long journey Better pack a toothbrush Don't know how long I'll be gone Or how long the road will take me Or if the snow will be lost in its tracks Before I am free But I've got aways to go I've got aways till home I'm headin' south from the flatlands See the state at its best And I've got a lot of road to travel To feel the heart in my chest Houston city limits The lights a-colorin' the sky But I feel as small as an orphaned child With my thoughts a-wonderin' why 'Cause I've got aways to go I've got aways till home
4.
It's time to go back to the wilderness again It's time to go alone, and leave all my friends It's time to lay down all the lies in my head It's time to forgive so that I may forget It's time to forget all my failures and fears It's time to dive in so that I may be healed It's time to let go of what I've held onto It's time to run into the arms of You

about

A record that details desolation and discipline, "Wilderness" is Andrew Michael Akins' debut 4-track EP, released in 2016. The album resonates a somber mood as Akins writes his experiences in the dry spiritual wilderness. He finds a sliver of light in "A Little Sleep, A Little Slumber" as he beholds the end of the story: the enemy crushed and evil defeated. But until then, he realizes the wilderness is a place of waiting - and a place of finding meaning in something beyond yourself.
